INTERVIEW WITH A PRO

Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame Celebrates 20 Years!
Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame Celebrates 20 Years!
In May of 2003 I had returned from a trip to Atlanta where I had visited the Georgia Music Hall of Fame (now sadly gone), and It inspired me to try and discover the music history of Long Island. What I found astounded me! The wealth of music and history that was contained on Long Island was nothing less than staggering! At the time I was the publisher of “Long Island Entertainment” a free newspaper on the Long Island Music and Entertainment scene and in my monthly column I wrote an article about the need for Long Island to have it’s own Hall of Fame to Celebrate and preserve this history. From that Article I was approached by Norm Prusslin (Head of the Communication and Theater Arts department of SUNY University Stony Brook) where he offered space (as well as cookies and coffee) to hold meetings to help establish the organization. The meetings eventually moved to my living room in Smithtown NY and with a passionate board of directors we had within a year our 501(c)3 non for profit status and we were incorporated under the NY board of Education. From those humble beginnings we were able to create our first induction ceremony two years late with over 50 Inductees!!

Since that time The Long Island Music Hall of Fame has moved beyond my wildest dreams and is now 20 years old! Congratulations to the Board and all that worked so hard to make this dream a reality!
