Making A Scene Is Moving Toward a 100% Ad-Free, User-Supported Future
Listen to the podcast discussion to learn why Supporting Making a Scene is Important!
For more than a decade, Making A Scene has been showing up every single day for the indie music world. We have published fresh content every single day for over 10 years straight. No breaks. No missed days. No excuses. Every sunrise brings new interviews, new reviews, new gear talk, new music business guides, and new tools to help independent artists grow. This is not a hobby for us. It is a mission.
And now, we’re ready to take the next big step. We want to turn Making A Scene into a completely ad-free, reader-supported platform. No banners. No pop-ups. No trackers. Just pure, clean, high-quality content built entirely for indie musicians and the fans who care about them.
But to make that jump, we need your help.
Why We’re Making This Shift
Over the years, online ads have become more intrusive, more distracting, and less supportive of real journalism. The big platforms take the money. The creators do the work. The community gets bombarded with junk.
That model doesn’t fit who we are.
Making A Scene is about helping artists build the new music industry, and we can’t do that while leaning on the old digital advertising model. We want to create a space that feels like home. A place where artists can learn, grow, and discover without wading through flashing banners and autoplay ads.
Going ad-free lets us stay independent. It lets us focus on the work instead of chasing clicks. And it lets us expand our coverage into deeper guides, more interviews, more reviews, more Web3 tools, more AI education, and more of what helps artists move forward.
But independence comes with a cost.
What It Takes to Keep Making A Scene Alive
Running Making A Scene costs real money every month. Server space, bandwidth, security, backups, software licenses, and all the tools we use to run the site add up fast. To keep everything online and running smoothly, we need to raise at least $1,500 a year.
That is the minimum we need to cover our hosting, platform software, firewalls, media storage, and the core tools that keep the site alive. Without it, we cannot stay online at the level our readers expect. And we definitely cannot keep publishing new content every single day like we have for more than 10 years.
If we can pass that $1,500 mark, we can finally move toward being 100% ad-free. We can remove every ad, clean up the layout, speed up the load times, and give indie artists a better home to learn and grow.
This is your chance to help us make that move.
Why Your Support Matters Right Now
Every time you read an article on Making A Scene, you’re reading something created for one purpose: helping indie musicians build the new music economy. We don’t answer to labels, marketing agencies, streaming companies, or corporate sponsors. We answer to you.
When you donate, you’re keeping a decade-long tradition alive. You’re supporting a platform that publishes every day. You’re helping indie artists get their music heard. You’re helping writers, producers, engineers, and fans come together in a community that actually cares.
And you’re helping us create the next chapter: a clean, ad-free, reader-powered platform that can stand tall on its own.
If you believe in independent music, this is your moment to help the home of independent music grow stronger.
How You Can Help Us Reach Our Goal
If Making A Scene has ever helped you discover new music, learn something useful, pick the right gear, understand the industry, or feel more connected to the indie world, please consider donating. Every donation—big or small—gets us closer to removing ads forever and expanding our coverage.
Imagine a Making A Scene that loads instantly, reads cleaner, looks sharper, and puts the spotlight only on the stories and artists that matter. Imagine a platform built fully by its community, not advertisers. Imagine more reviews, more interviews, more deep-dive guides, more business help, more tech, more tools, and more support for the artists who need it most.
That is what your donation builds.
Together, We Can Build the Future of Indie Music
Making A Scene has been here for 10+ years. We have published without fail every single day. Now we want to take everything to the next level. We want to become the place where indie artists learn to build the new music industry, free from the noise and clutter of online advertising.
We are asking you to stand with us and help keep this platform alive, independent, and growing.
If you can donate today, you’ll be helping us pay for our servers and software so we can stay online, stay strong, and stay focused on delivering the best content for independent musicians everywhere.
Let’s build the future of indie music together. Let’s make Making A Scene a 100% ad-free, artist-first platform. And let’s keep showing the world what independent music can become.
