After a break of more than ten years, Mark Remmington presents us his first solo album “12 Weeks”. Mark is based in the UK and has played and performed on numerous commercial releases before. During the lockdown that hit us all, he had the idea to write a song every week for twelve weeks … his way of clearing his head and processing everything that is happening around him. And the result is a brilliant album!
Songs that tell stories, from the singer himself but also from friends, family and people who inspired Mark to venture into this project. A person-to-person album, so to speak.
His music is a successful mix of folk, rock, pop and soul and sometimes a touch of jazz. Very lyrical and his voice does the rest to make him listen to him with pleasure.
Love, loss, pandemic … all topics that move each of us are sung about.
One of my favorite songs on the album is
“Grow up!”…. even if I can’t really say which song I like best. I was enthusiastic about the melody from the start, as well as the lyrics.
Also, “Dream Big” thrilled me totally, motivating and a guitar playing blows my mind, plus the haunting voice of Mark, awesome!
“Black Keys Home”, also a song that you can listen to again and again without getting bored … what you don’t do with this album anyway, it’s much too varied for that.
“Sleep Sleep My Darling” is an example of this, a beautiful song and needless to say, I’m a little in love with Mark’s voice.
“The Time Machine”, another one of my favorites, starting slowly and then increasing in rhythm, thrilling and excellently played and sung.
These are only five songs from an album that totally excites me and you should do yourselves a favor and listen to it completely because it’s worth it!
Mark says: I’m used to being the guy that turns up, plugs in a guitar and gives you what you want; but the whole encompassing piece of writing, recording, and producing using a very modest home studio setup has been a huge learning curve, and very new to me.
And all I can say is: Well done Mark, you’ve written an album that couldn’t be more personal and human, that isn’t just about your own ego but is made for family, friends and fans!
