Two-time Michigan Music Award winner Lexie Blue delivers a bold and unapologetic statement with “Too Glam To Give A Damn,” a 10-track blues-soul powerhouse that blends classic grit with modern swagger. Rooted in deep blues tradition but infused with funk, attitude, and a touch of vintage glam, the album showcases Lexie’s commanding vocals and fearless storytelling.
Lexie was named Best Blues Artist in both 2019 and 2022 by Detroit Channel 4’s “Vote for the Best.” She also won the 2023 Blues Competition in Lansing, Michigan for the Capital Area Blues Society, and followed that with another win in 2024 for the West Michigan Blues Society.
Vocalist Lexie Blue is backed by a tight and dynamic band featuring guitarist Pete Bullard, keyboardist Jack Rivers, bassist Kevin Schoepke, drummer Gary Martin, and a powerful horn section with trumpeter Mike Puelson and trombonist Joe Rodrick.
On the title track, “Too Glam To Give A Damn,” the horns punch through with flair as Lexie sings with sultry defiance, “well they tried to take me down but I’m too glam to give a damn.”
“Break Up Kiss” settles into a slow-burning groove as Lexie laments, “the heart is so played…I hate being this way…go back to what comes…thank you for the break up kiss, it says it all.”
The sassy “Sit Down & Hush” delivers attitude and edge, with Lexie moaning, “whoa, whoa, well sometimes I feel your wrath, sit down and hush,” supported by some standout lead guitar work from Bullard.
On “I Got Mine,” Lexie leans into a soulful groove, singing, “all I feel is you…it seems to be going ’round, it’s all over town…when I close my eyes all I feel is you, I got mine.”
“Walk In My Shoes” carries a message of empathy and perspective, as Lexie chants, “you come walkin’ past my door, walk in my shoes, walk in my shoes, so you can understand, where you could be, feel what I feel.”
“Sneaking Out” tells a restless story of escape and desire, with Lexie singing, “every night, I don’t know what to do…I got stories, sneaking out at night, burnin’, burnin’, you had me baby, burnin’, burnin’ deep down inside.”
On the humorous “Ain’t Good At Drinking,” once again driven by the horns, Lexie playfully admits, “I’m feeling so high, no I ain’t good at drinkin’, no I ain’t good at drinkin’…sometimes I kiss the floor.”
The smoky funk of “Darker Shade of the Blues” blends heartbreak with resilience, as Lexie belts, “everybody’s talking about the things that you do…no one wants to see your face, I don’t care what you do, there is something, I got to tell you, your the darker shade of the blues,” backed by the tight rhythm section of Schoepke and Martin, along with the bold horn arrangements.
On “Get The Hell Up Outta My House,” Lexie delivers pure attitude, pleading, “Get the hell up outta my house, if I don’t tell the truth, get the hell up outta my house,” before the tempo kicks up and she declares, “come on everybody it’s time to start a fight get the hell outta my house.”
The album closes with “Chin Wagging,” opening with drums that evoke a classic “hand jive” feel, as Lexie croons, “she’s my girl, she’s my ‘chin wagging girl.”
Lexie Blue has shared the stage with artists such as Tab Benoit, Mark Farner of Grand Funk Railroad, Anthony Gomes, Coco Montoya, and many others. “Too Glam To Give A Damn” is more than just an album title—it’s a statement. It’s about owning your story, walking away from what no longer serves you, shedding old skins, and stepping into a bold new identity with grit and unapologetic confidence.
