Making a Scene Presents an Interview with Lance and Lea
Lance and Lea are Nashville’s definition of “two worlds collide”—and somehow it works so well it feels inevitable. Their story starts on opposite sides of the tracks: Lea grew up Amish, singing country and gospel hymns in church, while Lance came up as a rock musician in the gritty Texas club scene. They met in Nashville, booked a single songwriting session, and by the end of that first write the duo Lance and Lea was born.
That contrast is the engine of their sound. Their music lives where old-school country meets rock, powered by Lance’s Texas blues guitar riffs and Lea’s pure, soothing lead voice and harmony instincts. Together they’ve built a creative partnership that’s relentlessly productive—writing over 1,000 songs—and the result is a catalog that feels both rooted and fresh.
Their debut album, There Goes My Heart (2018), was produced by Grammy winner Paul Worley and earned airplay in the UK, Ireland, and Nashville. The momentum led to major recognition at the 2019 iHeart Radio Rocky Mountain Country Music Awards, where Lance and Lea were named New Artist of the Year, and the album itself was later nominated for Album of the Year in 2020.
Touring is where their story becomes impossible to ignore. Lance and Lea have built their fanbase the hard way—face to face and mile by mile—with 100,000+ tour miles and counting. In 2020, they raised over $16,000 through a fan-funded crowdfunding campaign to create their album Great Big World (released the following year). And in the middle of the pandemic, when most artists shut things down, they did the opposite: they booked a 31-date Backyard PopUp Tour, traveling through 26 states and more than 12,000 miles to bring live music directly to people who needed it.
That hustle didn’t slow down. In 2021 they hit the road for an 80-date, four-month “Summer Tour” across 38 states, traveling in a vintage RV they nicknamed “The Honeybee.” In late 2022 they released Songs From The Road, capping a year that also saw them become semi-finalists in the American Songwriter Contest. A third consecutive 80-date summer tour followed in 2023, reinforcing what fans already knew: this duo is built for the road.
In 2024, Lance and Lea reached a major milestone with the release of their double album Boots & Blues, a two-sided reflection of their musical heritage. They celebrated with another extensive run of venues and house shows, and began headlining festivals and fairs—performing for crowds of 4,000+. Building on that success, 2025 has brought a successful six-month tour and an important leap into the sync world with a TV/film placement in the new Lionsgate series The Rainmaker.
Lance and Lea’s story is ultimately about contrast turned into chemistry: Amish hymns and Texas grit, country heart and rock edge, grassroots touring and big-stage momentum. They’ve earned everything the long way—with songs, miles, and a real connection to the people who show up for them.
