Making a Scene Presents an Interview with Kat Blue

KAT Blue & The True Believers are a blues band built on fire, feel, and full-throttle conviction. Their new EP, Clock Strikes Blue, captures a group locked into what KAT calls an “all asides, all the time” spirit: no half-measures, no phoning it in, just hard-hitting blues played with purpose.

From the opening downbeat of “The Blues Is My Business,” the band makes its presence known. The track lands with force, and when KAT’s voice enters, it pulls the listener straight into the center of the storm. Her vocals carry command, grit, and emotional weight, giving the songs the kind of urgency that makes blues music feel alive in the room.

The roots of KAT Blue & The True Believers go back to 2022, when KAT began hearing the same message from respected Blues Hall of Famers in her circle. These were musicians she had often called on as trusted players in her previous band, and they encouraged her to step out front with her own songs and her own vision.

“The concept for this band started in 2022,” KAT says. “A lot of the impetus came from the Blues Hall of Famers around here who were my go-to guys in my previous band whenever I needed fill-ins. They all told me, ‘You have to have your own band and do your own songs. Your band, not a collaborative thing, your band.’”

She listened. In November 2023, KAT assembled a group of “true believers” around that vision. The band quickly found its footing, jumping onstage at Bluesapalooza in 2024 for a short set that left a lasting impression. The response was strong enough that they were invited back the following year to headline, and the momentum has been building ever since.

On Clock Strikes Blue, KAT Blue & The True Believers show a band that knows how to shift gears without losing power. The songs move through different moods, tempos, and arrangements, giving the EP shape, surprise, and emotional range. There are twists in song choice, sharp turns in feel, and enough electricity to keep the listener leaning forward.

At the heart of it all is KAT’s belief that blues should do more than entertain. It should reach people. It should tell the truth. It should shake something loose.

“I want our songs to grab hold of you and make you feel something,” she says. “It needs to touch you and shake your soul. I don’t play for my own satisfaction. Egos or being self-serving doesn’t enter into it. I want to build a community of people who get together, no matter where we play, where they let their hair down and party with us.”

That sense of community is central to the band’s identity. KAT Blue & The True Believers are not just playing songs; they are creating a shared experience. Their live show is meant to move people physically and emotionally, taking the crowd through highs, lows, surprises, and release.

“We want to put you on the rollercoaster,” KAT says. “Take you up, down, all around. You think the ride’s over, but it’s only just begun. And by the time we’re done, you’re holding on to your seat going, ‘What just happened?!’”

With Clock Strikes Blue, KAT Blue & The True Believers prove they are a band with a clear mission: powerful songs, fearless performances, and blues that connects straight to the soul. Like the old Disney E-Ticket rides, they are not offering a quiet stroll. They are offering the big attraction.
