Joe Krown Tribute
Joe Krown
Tribute
Sledgehammer Blues
Joe Krown played keyboards with many people who influenced him. When I first heard Krown he was the keyboardist for Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown. Krown played alongside his band mate alto-saxophonist Eric Demmer. Krown’s last project was in a duo performance with Jason Ricci.
Krown opens with an instrumental tribute to Allen Toussaint with Mark Brooks on bass, guitarist Leo Nocentelli and drummer Doug Belote. On Dr. John’s “Such A Night” the vocal is sung by Ivan Neville and Jon Fohl is on guitar.
“Classified” is the James Booker instrumental again with guitarist Fohl. “With You in Mind” is another song written by Allen Toussaint this time sung by Noah Hunt.
“Dorothy” is another Dr. John song. “Southern Nights” is the Allen Toussaint classic with Jack Miele on guitar.
Krown plays the Ligtnin’ Hopkins “Feel So Bad” with a guitar and vocal by the late Walter “Wolfman” Washington. Krown also adds three originals including a tribute to Jay McNeeley and one to Professor Longhair.
This is truly a tribute to his influences that can be enjoyed over and over. The man, Joe Krown is a class act.
