Since Jennifer Lyn & The Groove Revival launched their first official album release in 2021 with the EP “Nothing Holding Me Down”, they have blazed a remarkable trail through the modern blues scene. The band quickly gained momentum, reaching #4 on the Billboard Blues chart and earning accolades. This new album was recorded live at the Belle Mehus Auditorium in Bismarck, North Dakota.
Backing Jennifer Lyn, guitar and vocals, is a talented ensemble of seasoned musicians including Richard Torrance, lead guitar; Barb Jiskra, keyboards; Nolyn Falcon, bass; and Jim Anderson, drums. Special guest guitarist Jaxon Fitterer also appears on six tracks. The band’s raw, soulful sound, paired with Lyn’s powerful vocals and bandmate Torrance’s searing guitar work, has captivated audiences and critics alike.
The group has garnered an impressive seven Independent Blues Music Award nominations, recognizing their talent, originality, and contribution to contemporary blues. Additionally, their songwriting prowess earned them a nomination for an International Songwriting Award, further solidifying their reputation as both gifted musicians and storytellers.
“Electric Eden” captures the moment when a room, a band, and an audience lock into something that can only happen live. Recorded in front of a fully engaged crowd, this nine-song live album features eight originals, co-written by Lyn and Torrance, and one carefully chosen cover, all delivered with the focus and intensity that turns a concert into an event. This album puts you right in the seat, locked into an unforgettable night.
The band opens with “Breaking Chains”, a song possibly named after the bestselling book, as Lyn sings, “How can I be ready…I got a pocket full of money and nothin’ but time…I’m breaking chains, I’m breaking chains”.
“Light The Fire/When The Levee Breaks” is a medley that combines originality with blues tradition, a nod to Memphis Minnie, and another contemporary nod to Led Zeppelin, as Lyn chimes, “Turn on the light, light the fire to your heart, light the fire, light the to your heart…light the fire to your heart”.
“White Rabbit” is the lone cover, written by Grace Slick of Jefferson Airplane, as Lyn chants, “One pill makes you larger, and one pill makes you small, and the ones that mother gives you don’t do anything at all, go ask Alice, when she’s ten feet tall…”.
On “Lay Your Memory Down”, Lyn moans, “You haunt my dreams, you’re just like a ghost, I toss and turn as my heart screams, you won’t let me go, here I am crying…it’s time to lay your memory down, the truth set me free, like a weight that’s shed, I always knew it wasn’t meant to be…”
“Sucker For The Pain” features Lyn as she groans, “you’re just a sucker for the pain…like a needle in a vein, your just a sucker for the pain…walk on by your just a sucker for the pain”.
On “Nothing Holding Me Down”, Lyn wails, “I’m gonna run, run for my life, I’m gonna to fuel that desire run toward the light, I’m not seeking shelter from life’s pouring rain, I’m gonna stand my ground, I won’t get knocked down again…there’s nothing holding me down”. “Baggage” includes Lyn as she confides, “honey do that, honey do this, I’ve got baggage, it won’t fit in my suitcase”.
On “’59 Cadillac”, Lyn howls, “I don’t care if your comin’ back, I got his ’59 Cadillac, I check myself in the rear view mirror, I got my hands on the wheel, I don’t care if he’s comin’ back, I got his ’59 Cadillac”. On the closer, “Refuge”, Lyn croons, “there’s no one else around, you better love you, for my soul”.
Rooted in the spirit of classic rock and driven by the soul of modern blues, the performances channel timeless rock energy through a bold, modern blues-rock edge that keeps the night moving forward. Guitars bite and soar, vocals cut straight through the room, and the rhythm section drives the music with purpose, capturing the shared energy between stage and seats.
Jennifer Lyn & The Groove Revival have achieved consistent success on the blues airwaves, with all three of their album releases landing in the top 10 on blues radio music charts. With a reputation for electrifying live performances and a steadily growing fanbase, Jennifer Lyn & The Groove Revival continue to carve their path in the blues world, blending authenticity with a fresh, contemporary edge.
