Greg Sover Band The Parade
The Parade
Grounded Soul Records
Pennsylvania based Greg Sover has been influenced by multiple genres including classic rock, blues, and reggae. He released his debut album “Songs of a Renegade” in 2016. His follow up recording was 2018’s “Jubilee”.
“The Parade”, an EP completed during the pandemic, is only Sover’s third release. The band lineup remains unchanged. The GSB includes Sover, guitars, percussion and lead vocals; Garry Lee, electric bass, percussion and background vocals; Allen James, lead guitar; and Tom Walling, drums. Special guests include keyboardist Wally Smith; and the harp wielding Gloria Galante. The album is produced by Lee with, Sover and Mike Tarisa; and recorded, mixed and mastered by Tarsia at Philadelphia’s TTR Studios, and MT Recording.
The GSB opens with “Wake Up” with the lyric “I just need your loyalty, tell me you got love for me…. I already know what you’re looking for, I’ll give you more… I’m waking you up from your dream to show you what it’s really like…” The heavy classic rock production is followed by a fifty-four second psychedelic passage called the “Wake Up Interude”, an excerpt from a larger composition and tribute to George Floyd, written by Galante. Sover switches to a resonator guitar on “Feelin’ Somethin’” and sings “I’m on my way, I wanna feel like that again”, while the rhythm section pounds out a revivalist beat. Sover plays an acoustic guitar and delivers a poignant vocal on “It’s Never Too Late”.
The only cover is “Politician” written by Jack Bruce and Peter Brown and recorded in 1968 by the legendary British rock band “Cream” on their third album. The then revolutionary song was made relevant again as we approached the upcoming 2020 election this past November. It was released as a single over the summer and received significant airplay on blues radio. Sover and band close with “Never Gonna Stop” another classic rock structured anthem as Sover and Lee share the chorus, while the rhythm section completes the production.
This too short Greg Sover Band recording is a reminder as to what might be forthcoming from this powerhouse.
