Making a Scene Presents Gerry Casey’s Interview with Stone James of Hollis Dorian

Hollis Dorian is an award-winning country singer-songwriter whose music blends country roots with rock and pop energy. His sound is built on strong hooks, honest storytelling, and a modern country edge that reflects the wide range of influences that shaped him.

The title track from his debut EP, Country By Birthright, earned major recognition at the 2023 Josie Music Awards in Nashville, winning Country Song of the Year (Multiple Writers). Hollis accepted the award while standing inside the legendary Opry Circle at the Grand Ole Opry House, a milestone moment that marked an important step forward in his career.

Following the success of Country By Birthright, Hollis continued building momentum with the release of his new EP, You Got My Sumthin’, in February 2024. The project represents both a musical evolution and the beginning of a powerful new chapter with his live band.

That chapter was born out of difficult circumstances. After the untimely and devastating passing of Robert Wilson, lead singer of The Dead Show Dealers, remaining band members Stone Jamess, Josh Henry, and Bink Skiba found themselves at a crossroads. Hollis Dorian entered the picture with a shared musical history already in place. Stone and Robert had both contributed to tracks on Hollis’s debut EP, Country By Birthright, and Hollis was looking to form a live band that could bring his original songs to the stage with power and authenticity.

A partnership quickly took shape. Stone, Josh, and Bink joined forces with Hollis, bringing years of studio recording, songwriting, and touring experience into the project. Together, they co-wrote and produced You Got My Sumthin’, while developing a live show built around original Hollis Dorian material.

“Out of tragic circumstances, some really great music has been given life,” Hollis says. “These boys have years of studio recording and touring experience, and I could not be prouder of the material we are creating. We are all so excited to bring these songs to life on stage.”

Hollis Dorian and his band debuted their live show in early 2024 and are now preparing for more performances and touring opportunities. With award-winning songs, a strong new EP, and a band formed through resilience, friendship, and shared purpose, Hollis Dorian is stepping into his next chapter with a sound that is heartfelt, energetic, and ready for the stage.
