Making a Scene Presents Gerry Casey’s Interview with Andrea Dawson
Andrea Dawson is an emerging Australian singer-songwriter hailing from Adelaide, South Australia, and one of the country’s most powerful and dynamic female voices. After years of lighting up the local South Australian rock circuit, Dawson’s career took a major leap forward when she crossed paths with internationally touring artist Gwyn Ashton following his 2020 Downunder tour. Captivated by her voice and songwriting, Ashton immediately began a year-long creative partnership with her — co-writing, engineering, producing, and playing guitars for what would become her debut album, Tales From A Dirt Road.
This ambitious project brought together an all-star rhythm section of Chris Lambden (Screaming Believers) on bass and Travis Dragani (The Superjesus) on drums. Across its 16 tracks, the album also features an impressive lineup of Australian music legends, including Paul Wheeler (Icehouse), Dave Gleeson (The Screaming Jets, The Angels), David Blight (Cold Chisel), Matt Taylor (Chain), and guitarist Chris Finnen.
Over the past 18 months, Dawson has been meticulously shaping her sound in the studio, with emotionally charged songs like “Black Feeling Inside” and the defiant lead single “Fight Back!” showcasing her raw authenticity and fearless energy. The album, now in its final mixing stages, captures the grit of the blues, the punch of rock, and the storytelling heart of a true songwriter.
Despite working outside the mainstream machine, Dawson’s artistry and determination position her as a rising force — one ready to break through on her own terms and take her music from Adelaide to the world.
