Making a Scene Presents an Interview with Gabriel Mas
Gabriel Más is the spiritual and creative continuation of Gabriel Bondage, the 1970s progressive rock band that built its identity around ambitious compositions, mystical themes, and a restless desire to push music beyond ordinary boundaries. The name Gabriel Más, with más meaning “more” in Spanish, reflects both a return and an expansion: a new chapter rooted in the past, but not confined by it.
The project is led by original Gabriel Bondage member Rex Bundy and longtime friend, collaborator, and musical partner Rich Reardin. Together, they have created a rebirth that honors the spirit of Gabriel Bondage while opening the door to new songs, new sounds, and a broader creative vision.
For Rex Bundy, the journey began the night he saw The Beatles perform on The Ed Sullivan Show. Like it did for so many musicians of his generation, that moment sparked a lifelong fascination with music, performance, and the possibility of transformation through sound. From early days banging on a pawnshop drum to writing and recording with trained musicians, Rex steadily developed into the creative heart of Gabriel Bondage. The band’s music became known for its layered arrangements, progressive ambition, and lyrical interest in mystery, spirituality, and deeper human experience.
Decades later, that creative spark has not faded. It has evolved.
Rich Reardin brings his own deep history to Gabriel Más. A seasoned artist, songwriter, audio engineer, studio owner, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, Rich shares the same early musical inspiration and the same belief that music should continue to explore, challenge, and surprise. His background in progressive music, recording, production, and a wide range of instrumentation gives Gabriel Más both technical depth and imaginative reach.
Together, Rex and Rich have built Gabriel Más as something more than a retro revival. The project draws from the foundation laid by Gabriel Bondage, but it expands that foundation with a wider sonic palette and a renewed sense of purpose. Synthesizers, sitar, orchestral textures, guitar, bass, keyboards, drums, and carefully layered production all become part of the band’s language. The result is music that acknowledges the classic progressive rock tradition while reaching toward something fresh, cinematic, and emotionally alive.
Gabriel Más is not simply about revisiting old material or recreating a sound from another era. It is about continuing a journey that never truly ended. The music carries the same curiosity, atmosphere, and ambition that shaped Gabriel Bondage, but with the perspective of artists who have lived, learned, and grown through decades of creative experience.
With thoughtful lyrics, expansive arrangements, and a shared belief in music as a vehicle for deeper exploration, Gabriel Más invites listeners into a world where memory and imagination meet. The songs are built for the mind and the heart, offering layers of sound and meaning for those willing to travel with them.
As a continuation of Gabriel Bondage and a new creative identity of its own, Gabriel Más stands as both homage and evolution. It is a rebirth, a collaboration, and a statement of intent from two artists still searching for what lies beyond the next horizon. True to its name, Gabriel Más offers more: more color, more depth, more exploration, and more of the progressive spirit that began the journey in the first place.
