Losing Ground
Independent
Eric Wilson Adams began singing in a rock band when he was fourteen and still in Middle School. In 1969 five young Brookings High School boys formed the rock n’ roll cover band COCOON. Each had been in earlier ‘garage bands’. They played in many South Dakota City armories, bars, and countless high school proms and sock hops. They traveled the State in their ‘puke-green’ converted school bus making new friends along the way. They continued throughout high school and College. After the band years, Eric began writing his own songs, a mix of rock, Country and Blues. Eric and his band COCOON were inducted in to the South Dakota Rock Hall Of Fame in 2018.
“Losing Ground” opens with the title track as Eric sings “when I saw her drive away…she said baby I love you but I can’t stay…I can be a hard stubborn man… when you see her in town, tell her to turn around, and I’m losing ground”. On “I Have Lived”, Eric belts out “I can’t tell you all the places I’ve been, all I can tell you I have lived…all I know for sure, I have lived”. “All Alone Tonight”, “isn’t it kinda funny, I’m all alone tonight….I’m figuring it’s ok…not a sole insight and I’m thinkin’ it’s ok, I’m all alone tonight” with some great pedal steel. “A Time I Had” includes some great percussion, as Eric chimes “I got myself in trouble…but what a time I had….so believe in today…what you do is what you do…what a time, what a time, what a time I had”.
“Says She Loves Me Just The Same” is a slow ballad “I’m not a man made of money, I’m not a man of fortune or fame, but I met a girl down in Texas says she loves me just the same”. “Make A New Memory”, “we all love that’s true…every body love an old song, bringing back the time we knew, but one day you’ll discover, I’ll make a new memory of you…that’s right”.
“Rock Partay”, “I’ll throw a party tonight…let’s partay all night long, the band will play a lot of rock n’ roll”. On “Destination”, Eric chants “hold me back I think I’m a little crazy…and the train will never reach it’s destination, hold me back things are a little hazy and the train will never leave it’s destination”, with some more great pedal steel mixed with some dobro.
“Stronger Man”, “I thought I was good with my lady…I saw her leavin’ on that night train…and I cried like a baby,…you see that’s how wrong one man can be”. “Wicked Old Time”, “wicked old time will pass you by…we’ll time will wait for no one…if you wait too long…well time marches wrong, if you wait too long…that wicked old time, let them know how much you love them”.
“Playin That Love Song”, “we’ll play it again that love song…playin’ that love song with you, that’s all I want to do, there’s is nothin’ I’d rather do”. On the closer “Star Country”, with some great percussion, Eric croons, “wherever I go across the U.S.A. I meet hard working people…hard at work and hard at play…we’re a star country, united we stand, we’re a star country, stand up America, be strong America, be proud America, we’re a star country”.
Eric states “because I grew up singing cover tunes, my own sound varies from rock n’ roll, to Country and Blues. I spent a lot of time alone as a young boy, and I had to entertain myself. Some say I am ‘creative’ oddly enough…I do not think of myself as creative. Stuff just happens. I am an older entertainer…blessed to be very much in shape and able. And now that I am airing on some radio stations with my new tunes…I am elated”.
Eric’s tunes are guaranteed to make you smile. Stuff just happens.
