Making a Scene Presents an Interview with BobKat
Bob is a passionate, powerhouse blues and rock ‘n’ roll guitarist with over 50 years of live performance experience. Originally from the Berkshires in Massachusetts, his musical journey has taken him from the East Coast to California, eventually settling in Portland, Oregon. Bob has played stages large and small, from blues festivals and Portland park concerts to iconic local venues like The Candlelight Room and The Lehrer. He’s shared the spotlight with acts such as Ms. Demeanor, Nobodysbizness, Tracey Fordice & The 8 Balls, and many more. His electrifying guitar work and deep love for a variety of musical styles come alive on stage, often inspiring audiences to dance in the streets and sing along. Recently, Bob has crafted a dynamic solo show designed for smaller, more intimate settings—offering a stripped-down yet powerful musical experience.
Kat is a seasoned vocalist whose career spans decades and genres. Starting in the Pacific Northwest during the ’70s and ’80s, she brought her rich vocal stylings to jazz, blues, pop, R&B, and musical theater stages across the East Coast and New York City throughout the ’90s. Since returning to Portland 25 years ago, Kat has become a fixture in the local music scene, performing both solo and in ensembles alongside some of the city’s most respected musicians. Her performances have lit up beloved venues including Jimmy Mak’s, Tony Starlight’s, The Benson, The Allison, Arrivederci, and McMenamins locations, as well as public events throughout Portland Parks, the Columbia Gorge, and up to Seattle. Kat brings a magnetic presence to every performance—her voice is not just heard but deeply felt.
