Making a Scene Presents an Interview with Kamel L King Entertainment Lawyer and Artist Management
Kamel L. King was born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi. He studied at American University in Washington, D.C., before returning home to attend Tougaloo College, where he graduated with honors and earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and International Relations. He later received his law degree from Mississippi College School of Law, focusing on intellectual property and entertainment law.
Kamel built his early career inside the music industry. For ten years, he served as the Attorney on the Road for a nine-time GRAMMY-nominated gospel group. He also worked as Director of Operations for Blackberry Records, Inc., and for Terminal Recording Studios, a GRAMMY Award–winning recording facility. His work expanded into booking, event production, and large-scale music and tourism events. He went on to serve as Assistant Producer for Recording Academy–endorsed productions such as “Mississippi…Celebrates Its GRAMMY Legacy,” “Mississippi Night” at the GRAMMY Museum in Los Angeles, and other major tourism conferences.
Kamel is a contributing author in the American Bar Association’s book Entertainment Law: For the General Practitioner. He has also taught entertainment law as an adjunct professor at Mississippi College School of Law. Today, he practices entertainment law with Frascogna Law Group, PLLC, working under his mentor X.M. Frascogna, Jr., and alongside a respected team of attorneys who represent creative clients across the entertainment world.
Kamel now serves as the Bureau Manager for the Tourism Development Bureau at Visit Mississippi—a role he considers his greatest passion. His bureau oversees the Mississippi Blues Trail, Country Music Trail, Freedom Trail, Writers Trail, and the statewide music and cultural branding showcased at major trade shows and festivals.
