Making a Scene Presents an Interview with Kaatwalk
Kaatwalk is a Twin Cities-based singer-songwriter whose music is rooted in quiet honesty, emotional presence, and the kind of storytelling that turns everyday moments into something deeply human. Inspired by artists such as Brandi Carlile, Phoebe Bridgers, and Joni Mitchell, she writes with a reflective voice that values truth over polish and connection over perfection.
Her sound moves easily across folk, Americana, indie, and singer-songwriter traditions without being boxed into one genre. At the center of it all is the song: intimate lyrics, stripped-down arrangements, and performances that feel personal, lived-in, and real. Kaatwalk draws from shared experiences, small details, emotional undercurrents, and the moments people often carry quietly. Her music gives those feelings room to breathe.
Since 2022, Kaatwalk has been steadily building a catalog of original music. She released “Monster” and “Rum in Your Coffee” in 2022, followed by “Peace of Mind,” a 2023 collaboration with Fargo-based band Walking Phoenix. She also released “Falling on Deaf Ears,” a collaboration with local artist Dirty Hymns. More recently, she has continued to expand her sound with “Stop the Rain” in 2025 and “Can’t Be Alone” in 2026.
Kaatwalk’s voice can also be heard throughout Northern Soul, the sophomore album from Twin Cities band The Holy North, released October 3, 2025. Her contributions to that project reflect her growing role in the Minnesota music community as both a vocalist and collaborator. Outside of her solo work, she performs full-time as one half of the duo Marv and Kaat and also sings with The Holy North, an epic, powerhouse group known for its big sound and strong ensemble energy.
Collaboration is central to Kaatwalk’s creative life. She has been recording new music with respected Minnesota musicians including Marvin Gohman, Bob Delage, Phil Solem, Gil Navarro, and several guest players. She has also been working with engineer John Wright at his studio in Shakopee, shaping new material that continues to reflect her commitment to honest songwriting and community-driven music-making.
For Kaatwalk, music is not about chasing perfection. It is about being present, telling the truth, and creating connection. Whether performing solo, singing harmony, collaborating with other artists, or sharing the stage with Marv and Kaat or The Holy North, she brings warmth, humility, and emotional clarity to every song. Her work continues to grow from a simple but powerful belief: the most meaningful music is the kind that feels authentic.
