Making a Scene Presents Gerry Casey’s interview with Slyder Smith
UK rock artist Slyder Smith returns with a powerful new single, “Nobody’s Listening,” out 15th August 2025. Raw, melodic, and unflinchingly honest, the track captures the frustration of trying to be heard in a world drowning in noise.
“It’s about screaming for attention while everyone’s too distracted to notice,” Slyder explains. “We’re glued to phones, filters, and fast living — and in the process, real connection is slipping away.”
Produced by Robin Wynn Evans (Manic Street Preachers, The View, Sam Brown, Dodgy), the song pushes Slyder’s sound into new territory. Evans’ razor-sharp production amplifies the emotional weight of a track that fuses gritty rock guitars with cinematic intensity. More than just a song, “Nobody’s Listening” is a rallying cry for anyone who’s ever felt ghosted, ignored, or left behind.
The single will be available on all streaming platforms, with a limited-edition signed CD bundle featuring two exclusive acoustic tracks (Pleasure Victim and a cover of Hanoi Rocks’ Malibu Beach), plus a signed poster and lyric sheet.
Slyder first made his mark as guitarist and backing vocalist for cult power-pop outfit Last Great Dreamers. Rising from London in the 1990s, the band’s debut album Retrosexual (1994) earned them a Kerrang! “Best New Band” nomination before splitting two years later. Reforming in 2015, the Dreamers went on to release three more studio albums and a live record, touring with The Quireboys, Enuff Z’Nuff, The Wildhearts, The Alarm, The Boys, and Wolfsbane.
When the pandemic put the band on pause, Slyder struck out on his own. Working with producer Pete Brown (George Harrison, Siouxsie and The Banshees, The Smiths), he recorded the debut album Charm Offensive with his new band, Slyder Smith & The Oblivion Kids. Released in August 2022, the record was hailed by the rock press — Vive Le Rock called it “excellent,” Powerplay praised it as proof the UK still breeds world-class songwriters, and Fireworks dubbed it “a serious contender for album of the year.”
Backed by festival slots across the UK and Europe, tours with Electric Boys and Cherie Currie, and widespread radio play (BBC Radio 2 Rock Show, Planet Rock, BBC Introducing, Radio Caroline), Charm Offensive cemented Slyder’s reputation as a compelling frontman and songwriter.
Since moving from Somerset to rural Scotland in 2023, Slyder has been writing and recording new material at his home studio, again teaming with producer Robin Wynn Evans at TPot Studio, Perthshire. With Brian Kerr (bass) and Adam McNaughton (drums) completing the lineup, the songs are shaping into a full-length album due in 2026.
“Nobody’s Listening” is the first glimpse of that next chapter — a razor-edged anthem for the digital age, proving that Slyder Smith is more than ready to make himself heard.
