Making a Scene Presents an Interview with Bryan Schumann
Bryan Schumann is an award-winning composer, producer, and singer-songwriter based in Minnesota. His music weaves together elements of pop, folk, indie, rock, electronic, and classical genres, creating a sound that feels both modern and timeless. Known for his strong melodies and emotional depth, Schumann’s songs range from infectious dance tracks to introspective ballads that linger long after they end.
A gifted multi-instrumentalist, Bryan has performed live hundreds of times and composed hours of music for film, video games, and concert performance. His extensive catalog includes nine albums, seven EPs, and dozens of instrumental singles. In 2024, he released his debut singer-songwriter album, Bombshell Tree of Life, followed by his sophomore release, Heart & Horizon, in October 2025.
Both albums were met with critical acclaim and feature contributions from musicians across the globe—including artists from the United States, Argentina, Brazil, Bulgaria, Costa Rica, Croatia, Malaysia, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Spain, and the UK. Together, this international collective performs under the name Bryan Schumann & The Sunshapes.
To celebrate the release of Heart & Horizon, Bryan and The Sunshapes performed the entire album live at the Minnesota Music Café in St. Paul, joined by the Havana Quartet and special guests Strange Forest, Andrew David, and D.C. Leonhardt.
In addition to his work as a solo artist, with The Sunshapes, and through his instrumental project Ambient Embrace, Bryan’s compositions have been performed by numerous classical ensembles, including the Saint Paul Civic Symphony, the Augsburg Symphony Orchestra, and the Zeitgeist New Music Ensemble.
