On this recording Aaron Lack’s Vibetet includes Lack on Vibraphone and Glockenspiel; Ernie Durawa, drums; Pat Harris, double bass; and Rich Harney, piano. On three tracks Harris and Harney are replaced by Brad Taylor, electric bass; and Terry Bowness, piano. The album was recorded on January 13th, 2018 at the Austin Signal Studios.
Lack states “this is a contemporary jazz album that swings and includes current pop music from the movie La La Land”. The seven songs from the motion picture include “Another Day Of Sun”, “Mia And Sebastian’s Theme”, and the title track “Lovely Night”. These songs were composed by Justin Hurwitz who won both the Academy and Golden Globe Awards for “Best Original Score”. Hurwitz also won “Best Original Song” for “City of Stars” played here with Taylor and Bowness.
“Hotline Bling” was written by Hip Hop artist Drake. “Slangin’” is a Lack original. Critics reported “his arrangements seem designed to de-stress the very air that surrounds us”; and “if you can imagine having a beer at 2 in the morning in one of those underground New York City bars…then you can imagine how much fun this album is”.
The music here is an evocative vibe guaranteed to relax you and ensure a lovely night of listening without leaving your living room.
