Making a Scene Presents an Interview with Ilana Katz Katz
Ilana Katz Katz is a Blues and Appalachian fiddler, singer, songwriter, novelist, screenwriter, essayist, watercolor painter, apparel artist, longtime subway busker, and budding children’s book author who strives to bring good mojo wherever she goes.
Ilana’s writing career began in college where she majored in journalism, working as a freelance writer for all kinds of publications and garnering her first writing award as ‘stringer of the month’ from United Press International. Her graduate work in technical communications segued into her career as a technical writer where she earned a number of international awards from the society for technical communication for her innovative online business software tutorials.
But she always wanted to write novels and released her debut novel, The Underground, which was optioned for a screenplay. She completed the screenplay in 2020, during the initial pandemic lockdown. Ilana’s next novel, Housebound, is in the final editing stages and she also penned an educational children’s book, during pandemic lockdown, titled Miss Catty and the Batty about the environmental importance of bats.
In addition, she has an essay in one published business book, and has two separate essays slated for publication in books about Blues music.
Ilana’s visual art is available for purchase! She explores a multitude of mediums into an artistic gumbo that spans two dimensional wall art, one-of-a-kind good mojo luck charms, and a plethora of customized apparel. She’s well-known for her painted boots that she often wears while performing, but Ilana also paints sandals, belts, jackets, bracelets and anything else her visual muse dictates.
