“Time and Space” is the title of a “single” released from the new Thompson Egbo-Egbo album. The album’s called, “Just A Thought,” and is a strong example of this pianist’s blend of contemporary jazz and rock music.
Over the past several years, Egbo-Egbo has focused his body of work on combining his classical “chops” with his love of rock music and jazz. This album features his talents as both a pianist and composer.
Thompson Egbo-Egbo elevates his work with the addition of the Odin Quartet, a string section that compliments his arrangements. On his original song, “Out of Nowhere” they elevate the production with their impressive string arrangements featuring Alex Toskov, Tanya Charles, Matthew Antal and Samuel Bisson. The music reminds me of birds taking flight.
Born in Nigeria, Thompson Egbo-Egbo’s family emigrated to Canada when he was just a child. At age eleven he settled into his love of music and piano playing. In the early 2000s, he began performing in Toronto jazz clubs. By 2012, he had created his own group, and they released a debut album titled “Short Stories” in 2014.
Expanding his talents, he has worked in theater, serving as the musical director for several productions. Egbo-Egbo has composed music for the Canadian Contemporary Dance Theater. Recognizing the importance of giving back to the community, he is an active board member and supporter of the Dixon Hall and the Regent Park Music School in Toronto, Ontario. Additionally, he has established his own T. Egbo-Egbo Arts Foundation to support children’s Arts Education programs.
