Making a Scene Presents an Interview with Levi Platero
Levi Platero is from the Navajo Nation in the Southwest United States. He first gained national attention with his family band, The Plateros, who emerged in 2004 as a blues-rock power trio often compared to artists like Stevie Ray Vaughan, Los Lonely Boys, and ZZ Top. The band spent more than a decade touring across the U.S., building a reputation for their high-energy live shows and strong musicianship.
After ten years on the road with his family band and a one-year run as a guitarist for the band Indigenous, Levi felt it was time to return to his own musical voice. He launched his solo career, formed a new band, and began touring again under his own name.
Levi released a self-titled EP featuring the single “Take Me Back,” which won the 2016 Native American Music Award for Best Blues. That release helped establish him as a standout artist in his own right, not just as a member of a band.
Levi Platero is known for his natural musical instinct and deep feel on the guitar, especially for someone so early in his career. His playing blends Texas blues, vintage rock, and modern guitar influences from players like Eric Johnson and Steve Vai. On stage, his quiet personality gives way to a powerful and emotional performance, moving easily from fast, technical guitar runs to expressive, soulful moments that connect deeply with the audience.
