Jack de Keyzer Tribute
Tribute
Blue Star Records
Jack de Keyzer is a Canadian blues guitarist, songwriter, vocalist, producer and multiple award winner. He recorded his debut album “Hard Working Man” in 1991. He has received four Juno Award nominations winning “Blues Album of the Year” in 2003 for his album “6 Sting Lover”; and winning a second time in 2010 for his album “The Corktown Sessions”. De Keyzer also holds seven Maple Blues Awards. Overall he has released ten previous recordings and one DVD.
This new album was produced, recorded, mixed and mastered by de Keyzer at the Blue Star Recording Studio in Clarington, Ontario. The band includes de Keyzer, electric and acoustic guitar, and vocals; Nick Succi, keyboards; Richard Thornton, saxophone, congas, and percussion; Alan Duffy, bass; and Peter Grimmer, drums.
All of the songs on “Tribute” are written by de Keyzer as he pays homage to classic blues and rock. He opens with the screamin’ boogie “Are You Ready?”; and displays a wide appreciation of styles including the danceable Stax–like “On The Money”; the British rock influenced “Let’s Do It”; and the Motown inspired “That’s How We Make Love” with a great vocal.
De Keyzer excels on the explosive “Coming Up” with its uplifting bass, and a killer guitar solo; and explores softer Latin rhythm’s on “Supernatural” with another outstanding vocal. “Shake What Your Mama Gave You” is a fan favorite with the lyric “push, push, shove, shove”. Rounding out the set is an emotive soul blues with the lyric “I don’t know what I’m gonna do since you ‘Turned My World To Blue” featuring a piano solo before de Keyser takes his own; the lowdown, in the pocket, “Just For The Funk” with some sassy sax; the deep blues “If My Baby Left Me”; the reggae styled, Bob Marley influenced, “Keep The Fire Burning”, and the rockin’ closer “Forever”.
As a guitarist De Keyzer is a powerhouse.
