And Now
Seismic Blues Music
Grant Lyle is a Canadian guitarist, singer, and songwriter whose music blends soulful storytelling with a deep roots and blues sensibility. Lyle began playing guitar and writing songs in his teenage years, developing a style defined by his expressive vocals, emotional honesty, and intricate guitar phrasing. His influences span classic rock, soul, and the blues, and his performances are marked by warmth, groove, and heart.
Lyle’s debut recording, Brotherhood, arrived in 1998 and quickly established him as a thoughtful and gifted songwriter. In 2002, he released both the Live at Healey’s EP and a German compilation album. Later projects — including 2012’s So There and 2016’s Nu — showcased his evolution as an artist, combining lyrical depth with rich, organic musicianship.
Now, with And Now — his eighth recording, released September 12th — Lyle delivers one of his most confident and heartfelt works to date.
Fronting an all-star ensemble, Lyle handles guitar and vocals. He’s joined by Rob Gusevs on keyboards, Roly Platt on harmonica, Scott Brammer on bass, and Michael Sloski on drums. Additional musicians include percussionists Al Cross and Owen Tennyson, with Jenna Harding and Pat Dickinson providing backing vocals. The album features eight original songs and one inspired cover — a soulful, high-energy rendition of a Spencer Davis Group classic.
The album opens with “Won’t Let You Go,” where Lyle sings, “Hold my hand, I won’t let go, I ain’t lying, look how far we’ve come… all I ask of you is to believe that I won’t ever let you go.” The track sets the tone for the album — soulful, intimate, and full of conviction.
“Thank You” follows as a heartfelt expression of gratitude. Lyle chimes, “Searching for the right phrase, or the right words so I can say… it’s easy as the sunrise, your love is the light that’s in the sky.” The warmth in his voice gives the song a timeless, uplifting quality.
On “Lose It,” Lyle leans into his blues roots with a smoky groove and playful tension. “I followed you to your door, then I walked in and fell on the floor… holdin’ you sure ain’t easy, but lovin’ you sure do please me.” It’s a perfect example of Lyle’s ability to balance humor and heartache.
“We’ll Carry On” rises like a hymn to perseverance: “Faded, a song already sung, like a dream at dawn… we may fall, but we’ll carry on.” The song’s gentle optimism and glowing instrumentation make it one of the album’s most inspiring moments.
On “Asylum,” Lyle bursts with emotional power, singing, “Flying way too high and fail to touch the sky, touch down just in time… asylum in your arms, I can weather any storm.” His guitar tone shimmers, while the rhythm section provides a deep, steady pulse.
“One Desire” is a standout — melodic, soulful, and radio-ready. “Tell me what have I got to do? Help me do what you want me to,” he cries. “I believe I’m on top of the world, I can see I gotta get back to you.” It’s the sound of yearning set to a groove that moves.
The title track, “And Now,” centers the record thematically. Lyle sings, “Wake up in the morning, face a new sunrise, light is all around you, know that deep inside, right here and now you shine.” It’s a song of renewal and presence — a reminder to live in the moment and appreciate what is.
“Givin’ Away” follows with a soulful meditation on loss and resilience. “Who will call your name louder every day and wait for your reply? Who will tell the truth when those that lie to you get louder every day?” Lyle’s vocal phrasing and emotive delivery make this one of the album’s lyrical highlights.
The album closes with a fiery cover of “Gimme Some Lovin’,” written by Steve Winwood, Muff Winwood, and Spencer Davis. Lyle and his band inject new life into the classic, delivering it with grit, swagger, and joy. It’s a fitting finale to a record that celebrates both the roots and the spirit of rock ’n’ soul.
With And Now, Grant Lyle proves himself a seasoned artist at the height of his powers. His songwriting is honest, his guitar work tasteful and expressive, and his vocals brimming with emotion. Every track feels lived-in and authentic — the sound of an artist who’s not chasing trends but simply speaking his truth.
And Now is an album of heart, groove, and gratitude — and one that deserves a place among the finest roots and blues releases of the year.
