South Mississippi native Davey Jones will release Ball Cap Blues on January 23, 2026. The nine-song album showcases Jones’ distinctive approach to blues, blending Southern and contemporary influences while remaining rooted in the Mississippi blues tradition that defines his sound. Known for playing all the instrumentation on his recordings, Jones moves effortlessly from driving piano and guitar rhythms to laid-back grooves, upbeat funk, and modern blues beats. The result is a multi-genre blend that still feels unmistakably Southern.
Jones cut his teeth playing music throughout the Gulf Coast, absorbing Delta blues, Southern rock, and country along the way. He opens the album with “Banks of the Blues,” a tribute to growing up in South Mississippi and to the artists who came before him. “When you grow up in this area, you’re shaped by the music that surrounds you,” Jones explains. “I was born where the first rock ’n’ roll lick was recorded in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, in 1936. I try my best to stay true to myself while honoring the legends that paved the way. Ball Cap Blues is my version of the blues.”
“Banks of the Blues” sets the tone as Jones sings, “Spend my nights, you can say I got nothin’ to lose. I was born in Mississippi and raised on the banks of the blues.” On “New Groove,” he leans into everyday observations and restlessness, singing, “I like Southern style anytime I taste my food. Money slips right through my hands, I’m trying to play it close, but I’m about to lose my mind.”
“Walking Easy” follows with a relaxed, reflective mood as Jones chants, “I stepped outside this morning, there was sunshine on my face… life is passing by, I’m just walkin’ easy, there’s no rush today.” On “Ain’t No Good for Me,” he howls, “I’m going out with my friends all night just to play my blues… staying home ain’t no good for me.”
“Mid Memphis Blues” brings a rock edge as Jones wails, “I just left for Texas, I just got to make it, I got the Mid Memphis blues.” On “What You Gonna Do,” he turns inward, asking, “What are you gonna do? I gave you my heart… I’ll be out here all alone, alone with the blues.”
“Six Feet in the Ground” finds Jones moaning, “The devil’s at my door, I think I’m going down… got a woman gonna put me six feet in the ground.” “Going Down in Memphis” surges with regional imagery and momentum as he sings, “Something’s goin’ down in Mississippi, something’s goin’ down in Louisiana… that Mississippi River is about to flood.”
The album closes with “Woman I Love,” a heartfelt return home as Jones croons, “The woman I love is over that line… if I’ve ever been away, I’m going back home, down in Mississippi, down in New Orleans.”
On Ball Cap Blues, Davey Jones remains true to himself while honoring the great blues figures who came before him. It’s a personal, grounded, and deeply Southern take on the blues—his version of a tradition that continues to evolve.
