Teskey formed when blues guitarist Brandon Teskey (formerly of the band ‘Until the Sun’) and drummer Brandon Gaddy joined forces in 2024. Shortly after they were joined by bassist Matt Baldwin, and keyboardist Peter Murphy. The band spent the better part of a year writing and rehearsing before going into the studio to record “White Wolf”. The eleven original songs encompass a wide range of topics, including past heartbreak, depression, love, redemption, the duplicity of human nature, and Teskey’s wife’s year-long battle and recovery from cancer.
The lead off track “Under The Sun” is sung by Teskey as he plays guitar, while keyboardist Murphy supplies the backing vocal, “I have no peace under the sun…I had a dream that something happens, I have a sense of doom…I let the sun go down on you, you have no peace under the sun”. On “Cast Aside Child” Teskey plays some fluid guitar as he chimes “something is wild, I’m a cast aside child…that’s the legend that makes my name grow… something is wild, I’m a cast aside child”.
“Upside Down World” is a slow blues, as Teskey cries out “I wish I knew what to believe, my world is turned upside down…I wish I knew what is true and what’s a lie, the truth might kill me but not knowing will make me lose my mind”. On “Don’t Take My Angel” Teskey sounds like Tom Waits as he sings “I could not believe, in total dismay…please don’t take my angel from me, I pray don’t take her, don’t take, I pray don’t take my angel from me”, as Teskey sings about his wife.
“Lemon Tree” is a walkin’ blues, as Teskey groans “my baby don’t want to go to sleep, she wants to stay up all night long”. On the title track “White Wolf” Teskey howls “I know I’ll see you there, you say why won’t you start with me”. “Digital Window” is a funky instrumental with bass from Baldwin, and drums from Gaddy.
On the folksy “Beneath The Tupelo” Teskey chants “she stays within the shadows…she walks with me on the edge, beneath the Tupelo, on the bayou…even after they realize your worth”. “Shadow Side” you open your door, you let me in, to know all the things you want me to…to chase my love…you couldn’t tell me where it started or where it will end…to chase my love”.
“Redemption Blues” features Teskey’s guitar as he shouts out “oh, yeah, I like what I see why don’t you take a walk with me…you see you’re just like me, if only you could see me now”. On my favorite, the closer “Make The World Sing”, Teskey croons “I want to make the world sing but I don’t have a song…I want to make you love me, I want to make you believe, that there is something more…I want to give you hope, I wanna’ make you true love to feel …I wanna’ make the world sing”.
“White Wolf” is the debut album from Teskey. It was recorded at the Mind’s Eye Studio in Phoenix, Az. Teskey plays some emotive blues solos as he sings lead. He is accompanied by three fine musicians on this poetic and highly recommended tour de’ force. Watch his name grow.
