Ralf Dee Candy Box
Candy Box
Ralf Dee is a German singer / songwriter who has released an EP, three albums and four singles since 2009 and has played numerous gigs since then.
The first German-language album Glück gehabt was released in 2017 and since then he has only been writing German songs. The last single Regen, Regen komm was nominated for the 2020 Single Awards on oneworldmusic.co.uk and is already going in a direction Ralf could not imagine before.
Since autumn last year he has been tinkering with Lars Oeschey, guitarist and at home in the metal sector and sound engineer and producer Dennis Kizilirmak on the new EP Candy Box which was released on May 14th, 21st
A purely German-language EP but that won’t stop the international listeners from loving it. Four songs that tell about life, give their own experiences and insights into the life of the artist and which are absolutely brilliant.
It’s difficult to put Ralf into a certain genre, he has his very own style. But what can be heard absolutely clearly is the blues for which he has an affinity.
A stylish and extraordinary mix of folk, blues, techno … in short, something very special has succeeded here.
In the title song Candy Box he compares life to a candy box and this song is bursting with power, impressive beats and a rocky note, an absolutely successful introduction to the EP.
The song Oktober is not only about the season but also about a certain phase of life, the autumn of life. And again a very special mix of sounds. The song reminds me a bit of the German band Wolfsheim.
The song Dein Auge is about a personal experience Ralf had after an eye operation and is, so to speak, an homage to the eyesight, which one takes for granted, very meaningful lyrics and a great rhythm characterize the song.
The last song Früher nannten sie ihn Treg is about a guy, a steamy chatterbox. Here, too, it is the ingenious mixture of powerful beats, a slightly ominous melody and brilliant lyrics that make the song an absolute highlight.
This EP clearly shows that it doesn’t always have to be in English to be good. Handmade, bluesy and entertaining, Candy Box is something for every fan of sophisticated music.
